Biography

2001 marked a new beginning for Hip Hop in Ohio. This is the year that Calibur, whose real name is Maurice Penn and Jim Banks, known in the hip hop world as J-Banx would come together to form the super group Tha Dark Half. Though from different backgrounds, the two artist came from similar struggles, and witnessed some of the same hardships and setbacks on a road to just trying to live a decent life. For Banx,growing up in Tiffin OH, was filled with more downs than ups. With a rough childhood and troubling teen years, which consisted of crime and drugs, this would set the tone for a frustrating adult life. Upon leaving school, He packed his things up and headed for Toledo OH, with hopes of trying to find a way out of the dark place in life that he was accustomed to. For Calibur life was rough at an early age, being surround by drugs, alcohol and crime in his South Carolina hood. He found himself moving from city to city and state to state. In 1991 he fell in love with the Buckeye Sate and has ever since called Cleveland his home. While working on music in Toledo, a mutual friend introduced the two solo artist to each other. Right out of the gate, the chemistry between the two was unmatched and the lives that they have lived where paralelled. After doing numerous songs together, The two decided to put their talents together and form the super group Tha Dark Half. To date, Tha Dark Half has released 3 group cd's, 2 solocd's and a mixtape. They have manage to turn a rap group into an enterprise. Consisting of an independent record label, 2 recording studio's, and an online music community for independent artist to network with each other. Tha Dark Half currently has 3 mixtapes for free download, and they are fully prepared to flood the airwaves in2010 with brand new music.
